Soekershof is situated in Klaas Voogds West near Robertson in the Western Cape in South Africa. From Cape Town it is an easy 1.5 to 2 hours drive via the N1 to Worcester and from there via the R60 to Robertson. At Robertson follow the R60 to Ashton for 8 kilometres and then turn left into Klaas Voogds West. After 1 kilometre on this gravel road visitors will see a cactusfarm on the right. Next to the cactusfarm is a large dam (water storage) and the entrance of Soekershof with two elephants. Name The Klaas Voogds area consists of Klaas Voogds Oost, Klaas Voogds West and Klaas Voogds. The area is named after Klaas Voogd who in 1717 chased natives and used to stay at the river which runs through the area. There are several legends about Klaas Voogd, one of which says that he was killed by an elephant in the mountains which borders the North/East side of Klaas Voogds East/West junction. The area is known and recomended for nature loving holidaymakers from all parts of the world. There is plenty of accommodation (booking in advance is a must) in all price classes. |
