Pat Busch Private Nature Reserve

Situated fifteen kilometers from the pretty Boland town of Robertson in the foothills of the Langeberg, the Pat Busch Private Nature Reserve is only one-and-a-half hours drive from Cape Town. We offer the Nature Lover a wonderful opportunity to explore the hidden valleys and admire our 2000 Ha of spectacular scenery. Our trails will appeal to the birdwatcher and to those interested in Cape fynbos. There is a variety of proteas, and many ericas, lilies and ferns. With patience you may see the several types of small antelope that live in the area. A variety of indigenous game is being re-introduced, and the dams are stocked with bass.  These farms also operate as wine farms, supplying the Ashton Co-op. You may taste the wine produced from our grapes.

Geology and climate

The Game Reserve lies within the Cape fold mountain range and slopes south towards the great Breede River Valley. It is a winter rainfall biome with hot, moderately dry summers and cold, wet winters with occasional snow on the mountains (highest peak: +- 1500m). Annual rainfall is more than 500mm and the run-off forms part of the Indian Ocean drainage. The area is based on sedimentary and igneous rock formations.

What is there to see?

Pat Busch Private Nature Reserve (1988)

The Nature Reserve incorporates the greater portion of the farm-lands, valleys, foothills and mountains. This +/- 2000 ha allows for an extremely large bio-diversity to co-exist. Much of the natural flora can be found while hiking along our various mountain & valley trails. The fauna species include small indigenous antelope, a large variety of birds, predators and a treasure trove of trees, shrubs and Cape fynbos, including a rare Protea species only found in these mountains. A guided hike takes 4 - 5 hours to complete for a group of minimum 6 and maximum 10 people.

Klaasvoogds Game Reserve (1998)

Our re3cently established Game Reserve (+-300 ha in 2002 and expanding) is adjacent and complements the Nature Reserve. It is situated in the lower lying foothills of the Langeberg Mountains. It is the home of re-introduced indigenous game including Springbok, Bontebok, Hartebees, Eland and Black Wildebees. The flora is comprised of mainly Renosterbos, Pioniersbos, Spekboomveld and Cape Mountain Fynbos as well as thorn trees and wild Olive trees. Our guide will be pleased to safari you through the reserve in an open game viewing vehicle. A minimum of 2 and maximum of 8 people can be accommodated per drive.
