Ronnies Sex Shop

Ronnie painted the name "Ronnie's Shop" on this cottage next to the R62, planning to open a farm stall to sell fresh produce and fruit. His friends played a prank on him by changing the name to "Ronnie's Sex Shop". Initially angry about the involuntary name change, Ronnie left the name and continued fixing the dilapidated building. His friends would stop by for a chat, having a few beers and throwing a couple of chops on the fire. During one of these evenings, someone suggested: "Why don't you just open a pub?" (more info)

Platinum Koi

Development of Platinum Koi Fish Farm was started as a sole proprietorship in October 1993 by Servaas de Kock with his wife, Retha, as co-proprietor. Later, in December 1994, the status of the entity was changed to a close Corporation.

Koi are appreciated first of all for their quality and secondly for their beauty. The quality of Koi is directly related to body shape, colours, pattern and refinement. The body shape is the foundation for the elegant swimming style of a Koi. Add to the body a rich palette of colours and a variety of patterns and they become paintings in motion.

Vaalkloof Nature Reserve

For thousands of years before the first European colonists arrived, the San (Bushmen) hunter-gatherers and their ancestors lived in the Ceres Karoo. They left behind stone tools used for knives and leather processing, the bones of the animals they hunted with bows and arrows, grindstones for preparing vegetables and bored stones, that women used to wight their digging sticks. But it is their rock paintings that most eloquently express their presence. Rock paintings of the San and the Koi were discovered towards the end of 1998. One unique example is a fine lined painting of the extinct Cape Kwagga. Now you can experience how the San people lived thousands of years ago.

A true escape into nature at down to earth prices and within close proximity to Ceres. Experience the ultimate Karoo adventure! (self catering & camping)

Caution "Cats Crossing"

They’ve named us “Heather” and “Fatcat” Preston some 7 years ago when the Preston family (then residing in Cape Town, South Africa) adopted us. 3 Years ago, in 1995, we were uprooted when we all moved to the picturesque village of Montagu in the western Cape. Whilst the town is lovely, peaceful and less hectic than city life, the house our family bought is situated in the main street of the town – on a stretch where we have to endure and dodge young lads on motorbikes, rumbling delivery trucks and the odd cowboy racing past in his flashy car. Joubert House

The house museum depicts the lifestyle of the latter part of the nineteenth century. The wall paper in the Ken Birch room is unique in that it was specially printed from a sample of the original that was found in the room. The elberta peach pip floor in the kitchen and pantry is of special interest as it was laid according to a very old local method and recipe. The house was declared a national monument in 1975 and was re-opened on 14 October 1983 by State President Marais Viljoen, two and a half years after the flood and 130 years after it had been built. There is an interesting indigenous medicinal plant garden behind the house where examples of many local herbs are grown and there is also a nursery where these plants are sold. For lovers of bric á brac, the shop in the Joubert House has a small treasure trove of items.

Honiball collection of cartoons and books is an important new acquisition. Meerkatmagic

This project is unique in the world. It is a conservation/research project and only works with wild animals using ethical techniques to gain their selective trust after many years, without ever taming them! Since 1993 to present I have been working with wild meerkats. Previously with Cambridge University Britain and the University of Pretoria- Mammal Research Institute. Now working with an unknown subspecies of wild meerkat that I discovered here in the small Karoo. Wouldn’t it be great if you could walk with wildlife, without disturbing, without interfering, but still, interacting? To observe. To learn. To appreciate. Now you can. Grant M Mc Ilrath is an experienced, active research biologist and conservationist. Grant now offers you the opportunity to benefit from his unique approach to wildlife conservation. To walk with meerkats. To learn the language of meerkats, discovered by Grant for the first time, based on the foundation of 34 calls. To experience the 51 different behavioural patterns identified by Grant. And to learn the exciting wildlife habituation techniques.
